Catharine Morgan Oliver

April 27, 1918 — March 29, 2018

Catharine Morgan Oliver was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a former resident of Valdosta for 60 years. Catharine died March 29, 2018. She was born on April 27, 1918 in Pembroke, GA to Jessica Gibson and Julius Morgan. She lived there until attending and graduating from Georgia State Women’s College in Valdosta. She met her future husband, William Henry Oliver, Jr., whose family owned Southern Stationary and Printing Company at that time. They were married 30 wonderful years until his death in 1967.
In 1973, Catharine and William Wiley Oliver Sr. were married. They lived in Valdosta and had 13 years together until his death in 1986. In 1999 Catharine moved to the Atlanta area to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She was able to participate in many family gatherings as a result. Catharine was a devout Christian and loved sharing the gospel message. She was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and served in many areas until moving to Atlanta. She was a member of the Jr. Service League, Book Review Club, Rotary Auxillary. She was also an avid reader and bridge player.
Catharine was devoted to her family and was a loving wife and mother. This included her extended family and caring for her mother until her death. Catharine was a faithful friend to many in Valdosta. She spent much of her time and energy caring for and enjoying their time together.
Catharine was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, her husbands, William H. Oliver, Jr. and William W. Oliver, Sr.; her son, Charles Morgan Oliver; and grandson, Charles Eugene Oliver. Catharine is survived by her son, William H. Oliver, III; daughters-in-law, Cynthia and Kaye Oliver; William W. Oliver, Jr. and family; grandchildren, William (Jan), Catharine (Evan McLaughlin), Jack (Sharon); and eight great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 1 pm at the Carson McLane Funeral Home Chapel. There will be a private committal at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens in Valdosta, GA.
