Carl Lee Hackworth

December 2, 1938 — May 15, 2017

Carl Lee Hackworth, 78, of Valdosta went on to be with his Lord, Monday, May 15, 2017 at Langdale Hospice House. He was born in Maben, West Virginia on December 2, 1938 to the late James Walter and Sylvia Clay Hackworth. Mr. Hackworth served twenty one years in the United States Air Force and then worked with Boys Club of Valdosta. Mr. Hackworth was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was named United States Air Force Citizen of the Year for Georgia in 1974. He was an avid Valdosta Wildcat, Georgia Bulldog and Atlanta Braves Fan. Mr. Hackworth served as volunteer coach, created the Model Airplane Club and loved working with the youth at the Valdosta Boys Club. He loved animals, nature, fishing and model trains.
Survivors include his wife, Nina Watkins Hackworth of Valdosta; his children and their spouses, James and Deborah Hackworth of Midwest City, OK, Dee Dee and Bryan Johnson of Columbia, SC, Kathy and Joey Pope of Norman Park, GA, Suzanne Jackson and Fred Page of Valdosta, Bill Jackson of Ormond Beach, FL; 8-grandchildren, 10-great grandchildren; his sister, Clara Henderlight of Jonesville, NC; his brother, James Darrell and Barbara Hackworth of Jonesville, NC; numerous nieces and nephews; brothers in law and sisters in law, Billy Jack and Elvey Watkins, Jimmy and Rosemary Watkins all of Valdosta, Faye Watkins McElvey of Marietta, GA. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Delores Blankenship, Richard Hackworth, Gene Hackworth, Bonnie Sue King; parents in law, Carl and Jimmie Lee Watkins, brother in law, David C. Watkins.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Thursday, May 18, 2017 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Elder T. C. Norris officiating. Full military honors will be rendered following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Langdale Hospice House, 2263 Pineview Drive, Valdosta, GA 31602.
