Carl L. Law

September 4, 1940 — February 14, 2020

Carl L. Law, 79, of Valdosta passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Friday, February 14, 2020 after a valiant battle with multiple myeloma. Carl was born September 4, 1940 to the late Otis Benton Law and Olivi Padgett Law in Suwannee County, Florida. After graduating from Clyattville High School in 1958, he attended Norman Park Junior College and Valdosta State College. Carl served his country for six years in the Army National Guard. The patriotism and discipline he learned in the military made a lifelong impact on his life.
Carl married the love of his life, Jane Ganas on August 13, 1966. Their 53 year marriage modeled the 1 Corinthians kind of faithful, enduring love. Carl and Jane have two daughters, Lisa Law Bradford and Cindy Law Lyons and a devoted son/son in law, Scott Lyons. They are blessed to have four wonderful grandchildren, Sarah Ann Bradford, Benjamin Michael Bradford, Lawton Scott Lyons, and Lillie Anna Lyons. And father of Sarah Ann and Ben, Michael Bradford. Carl was a very devout family man who was committed and dedicated in caring for his family.
He started his own business, Law Construction Company in 1970 and successfully operated for 47 years. Carl was a passionate craftsman who never compromised quality and quickly earned a reputation for “Doing it right the first time!”
Carl along with several other builders, was instrumental in establishing the local Home Builders Association and serving as President for three different terms and a lifelong active member. He served on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Residential Finance Authority and on the local Zoning Board. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and working in his shop. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and investing in the lives of his grandchildren.
Carl and Jane were charter members of Greenwood Baptist Church where at the age of 28, he was ordained as a deacon. He served the Lord for 36 years including Sunday School Teacher and Royal Ambassador Leader. He was passionate about molding the lives of young boys carrying them on many and camping and fishing adventures. For the past 18 years, he and Jane have actively served at Northside Baptist Church where he was involved in the Men’s Ministry and was instrumental in remodeling multiple campus projects. Carl was a faithful member of the Gideons International.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Olivi Law, parents in law, Buck and Lillie Ganas, brothers in law and sisters in law, J. D. Moore, Chandler Joyce, Evelyn and Harris Register, Louis Ganas.
Carl is also survived by his brother and sister in law, Marcus and Faye Law; his sisters and brothers in law, Jeannette and Tommy Donnell, Alice Moore, Dorothy and Gene Piniella and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; brothers in law and sisters in law, Charles and Clara Ganas, Grace and Albert Smith, Bonnie Ganas, Danny and Wanda Ganas.
The family would like to express their appreciation and sincere gratitude for the wonderful help and care given by family, friends, wonderful physicians, Georgia Home Health and Hospice of South Georgia.
In celebration of a life well lived, the family will receive friends on Sunday, February 16, 2020 from 2-4pm at the Northside Baptist Church. A celebration of life service will be held at 11am, Monday February 17, 2020 at Northside Baptist Church with Dr. Robby Foster officiating. Burial will follow in the Good Hope Cemetery in Naylor.
