Betty Thursby

September 18, 1931 — August 4, 2023

Betty C. Thursby, age 91, of Hahira, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2023, at Langdale Hospice House. She was born on September 18, 1931, in Wagner, OK, to the late Robert Wesley Childress and Florence Webster Childress. Betty took great pride in her Creek Indian heritage and was an esteemed member of the Creek Indian Nation in Oklahoma. She had a passion for quilting and sewing, which brought her much joy. Betty dedicated many years to working in civil service at Moody Air Force Base, and she found solace in tending to her yard. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family and friends, and she was renowned for her exceptional cooking skills. Betty was a faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church.


Left to honor her memory are her beloved sons and daughters-in-law, John and Janice Thursby of Hahira, and Craig and Karla Thursby of Lake Jackson, TX. She also leaves behind her grandsons, Ryan Thursby (Gina) of Little Rock, AR, Justin Thursby (Samantha) of Carrollton, TX, and Travis Thursby of Dickinson, TX. Betty adored her great-grandchildren, Zack Lamb, Josh Thursby, all of Little Rock, AR, as well as Isla Thursby and TJ Thursby of Carrollton, TX; her great great grandchildren, Harlow Lamb and Asher Lamb of Little Rock, AR. In addition, she is survived by two brothers, Walter Childress of Teague, TX, and Ralph (Brenda) Childress of Port Neches, TX, as well as a sister, Roberta Stoebner of Victoria, TX. Betty will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Royce D. Thursby, and her sister, Bonnie Sue Fisher.


A graveside service will be held at 4pm on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Fellowship Cemetery with Brother Ike Jefferson officiating. To offer condolences, please visit the online obituary at www.mclanecares.com.
