Betty Sue Cranford Hawkins

September 13, 1934 — June 8, 2007

Betty Sue Cranford Hawkins, 73, of Valdosta, died on Friday, June 8, 2007, at Heritage House Nursing Home. Born on September 13, 1934, in New York, New York, she was the daughter of the late Col. Tom G. and Catherine Pendleton Cranford. Mrs. Hawkins was an LPN in the 1960’s and was working on her RN Degree when she suffered brain damage from a car accident. A graduate of Valdosta High School she was crowned Homecoming Queen in 1951. She was a true Wildcat fan, loved her classmates and enjoyed and appreciated all that they did for her over the years. Mrs. Hawkins was a Presbyterian.

Survivors are her daughters and sons in law, Mike and Susannah Lagioia, Mac and Marjorie McQuaig of Valdosta, son and daughter in law, Richard and Karen Hawkins of Franklin, Tennessee; grandchildren, Dusty and Cindy Statham of Tifton, Dr. Jess Rentz of Lake Park, Jamey Rentz of Valdosta, Trey McQuaig and Niles McQuaig of Valdosta, Katherine and George Fincher of Memphis, Tennessee, Lindsay and Drew Cooper of Hahira; great grandchildren, Meri Alyce Statham of Tifton, Riley Rentz of Lake Park, Caroline Cooper and Anna Cate Cooper of Hahira. She is also survived by her Heritage House Family who had loved and cared for Mrs. Hawkins. She was preceded in death by a sister, Cay Cranford Williams.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 3 p.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Dr. William W. Oliver will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 p.m. until service time. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Community Partners in Education (CPIE), c/o Tammy Leff @ Valdosta High School, 3101 N. Forrest St. Valdosta, GA 31602.
