Betty L. Jassmann

December 2, 1928 — October 14, 2012

Betty L. Jassmann, 83, of Valdosta died on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the Crestwood Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. She was born on December 2, 1928 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to the late Ollie and Jennie Tunin Johnson and has been a resident of Valdosta since 1991. Formerly of Atchison, Kansas she had received her Bachelor's Degree in education from the University of Oklahoma and retired from the city school system in Atchison as an English teacher. She was very active in the Atchison community having served as a Sunday school teacher at the 1st Baptist Church in Atchison as well as having served as past president of the Local American Baptist Women's Ministries, past president of the Junior Guild, Hospital Auxiliary, and was secretary of the founding board of the Samaritan Counseling Center, now known as All Faith Counseling Center. She was a member of Crossroad Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Sherrida and Mark Crawford of Valdosta, Linda and Douglas Lane of Titusville, Florida, and Jennifer and Pat Dunn of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Alice Crawford of Milledgeville, Georgia, Phillip Crawford of San Francisco, California, Andrew Lane of Jacksonville, Florida, Christiana Lane of Tallahassee, Florida, Jacob Dunn of Dallas, Texas, Ryan Dunn of San Antonio, Texas, Vincent Dunn of Pleasanton, Texas, Edwin Morales of San Antonio, Texas; great-grandchildren, Violette Dunn, Rachel Dunn, and Abbigail Dunn all of San Antonio, Texas, and Corbin Dunn and Seth Dunn both of Pleasanton, Texas.


A memorial service for Betty L. Jassmann will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2012 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Charlie Scarbrough officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service time on Saturday. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to LAMP.
