Bennie Ruth Welch

Bennie Ruth Welch, 73, of Lake Park died Saturday, June 27, 2015 at her home. She was born on March 19, 1942 in Waycross to the late James Hardy and Magdalena Brett Welch and lived in Valdosta, Atlanta, and Waycross before returning to this area several years ago. She was a graduate of Valdosta High School where she was a runner up State Championship Tennis player and graduated from Valdosta State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Miss Welch along with her parents were charter members of the Northside Baptist Church in Valdosta. She retired as a laboratory scientist from the State of Georgia Public Health Department. She enjoyed reading, travelling and studying history. Miss Welch loved Braves baseball, genealogy, was a member of the Camellia Garden Club and involved in the Girl Scouts.
Survivors include her brother and sister in law, Wayne and Linda Welch of Savannah, GA; nephew and his wife, David Ashley and Natalia Welch of Savannah, GA, niece and her husband, Allison and Lt. Col. Lloyd Richardson of Honolulu, HI; her great niece, Simone Christiana Welch of Savannah, GA; two aunts, Evelyn Welch Norman of Valdosta and Betty H. Welch of Hahira; numerous cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Marshall Martin and Suzanne Patterson Brett of Waycross, John Melton and Annie Beatrice Kemp Welch of Valdosta; aunts and uncles, William Amos and Charlene Welch, John Julian and Idell Welch, Jack and Burma Welch, Raymond Welch, Ouida W. and Dorwin Lee, Elizabeth W and Jimmy Russell, Velma W. and Oliver Rogers and Vivian W. and George Dallas, Julian Norman, Johnson and Evelyn Brett, Juanita B. and Joe Rogers, Aline and George Conner.
Memorial services will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, July 1, 2015 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with a private burial to be held at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
