Barry Burns Belanger

BARRY BURNS BELANGER, a resident of Valdosta, Georgia and native of Louisiana, died at South Georgia Medical Center, on Monday, December 5, 2016.

He was born in Morgan City, Louisiana, on July 21, 1941. He graduated from Louisiana State University receiving BA and MBA degrees. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Viet Nam era. He was married to Marian Nicolosi Belanger formerly of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Mr. Belanger was an active member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church where he was on the Administrative Board, attended the Thursday Morning Men's Bible Study, and served as a Communion Steward.

He spent his career in Human Resources Administration, including teaching at Valdosta State University, independent consulting and in leadership positions at medical centers in Valdosta, New Orleans and Lake Charles, Louisiana. Mr. Belanger was active in a number of professional and civic organizations and was a member of the board of the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts. He served as President of The Louisiana Catholic Health Association, The Greater New Orleans Hospital Personnel Directors Association, the Greater Lake Charles Rotary Club, the Southwest Louisiana Chapters of the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association, South Georgia Society of Human Resources Management, and Chair of the South Georgia Employers' Committee.

He enjoyed the beach, traveling with his wife, tennis, scuba diving in the Caribbean and skiing in the Rockies. He also enjoyed membership in the Barataria Mardi Gras Krewe and was a Duke on its Royal Court.

Mr. Belanger is preceded in death by his parents, Albert Braun and Helen Daniel Belanger, and four brothers, Henry Wynn Belanger, Albert Storm Belanger, Francis Daniel Belanger and Francis William Belanger. He is survived by Marian, his devoted wife of fifty years, and nine nephews and nieces, Mark Michael Belanger, Patricia Wynn Belanger, Stormy Belinda Watson, Angelique Lorraine Cole, Danny Lee Belanger, Flame Ann Nehlig, Christopher Paul Mayeaux, Suzanne Renee Eason, John Ellis Mayeaux, and many great nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements in Valdosta are by Carson McLane Funeral Home with visitation at Park Place on Saturday December 10 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be at Park Avenue United Methodist Church on Sunday December 11 at 2:00 p.m.

A memorial service will be held at Pharr Chapel United Methodist Church in Morgan City, Louisiana on Saturday December 17 with internment immediately following in the Belanger family plot.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Barry Belanger may be made to Park Avenue United Methodist Church, 100 East Park Avenue, Valdosta, GA 31602.
