Barneta O'Quinn Davis

Barneta O'Quinn Davis, 91, of Valdosta, passed away at her home on Saturday, September 17, 2011 after an extended illness . She was born in Perry, Florida on September 15, 1920, the sixth child and sixth daughter of the late Barney O'Quinn (her namesake) and Bessie Belle Parker O'Quinn. She was a 1938 graduate of Taylor County High School in Perry and completed secretarial studies at Bowling Green Business University, now Western Kentucky University. She married Joseph Polk Davis on December 28, 1941, soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor. She lived in Tallahassee and Thomasville. The family moved to Valdosta in 1956 for her husband to operate and then own The Megahee-Speight Company of Valdosta, Inc. She was accounts payable secretary in the business for many years and became a corporate officer.
Barneta gave much time and was most supportive in her husband's local, regional and state business and civic activities. The same support was afforded her children's' activities. She spent many years as a care giver to her husband and two older sisters. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she had been a primary Sunday School teacher.
Barneta is survived by a son, Donald O. Davis of Valdosta, daughter and son-in-law, Sue D. and Dr. Calvin Reams of Thomasville, two grandchildren and their spouses, Dr. Joshua and Julie Reams of Pelham, Austin D. and Dr. Suzanne T. Reams of Thomasville, five great grandchildren, Allie Virginia Reams, Walker Pearson Reams, Anna Claire Reams, Mallory Susan Reams and Madelyn Julie Reams and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Polk Davis, Sr., a son, Dr. Joey P. Davis, Jr., five sisters, Lucy O. Parnell, Henrietta O'Quinn, Mary O. Register, Marjorie O. Parker, Bessie Lee O'Quinn and one brother Barney O' Quinn, Jr.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 21, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home. Graveside services will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Reverend Ron Hatchett officiating. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund or to First United Methodist Church in appreciation of their televised services. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com
