Antonio Thomas Criscuolo

Antonio Thomas Criscuolo, (USAF, Ret. Colonel), died peacefully on Friday, September 13, 2013 at the age of 91 in Valdosta, Georgia at the Langdale Hospice House. Tony was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 13, 1922 to the late Luigi and Antonetta Criscuolo. Tony's mother was French and his father was Italian so he grew up speaking both languages. He was a proud alumnus of Brooklyn Technical High School, NY class of 1939. He entered the Air Force in 1943 and met Edna Lix while stationed in Germany where she was employed by the State Department in Berlin. He went on to earn a Bachelor of General Science degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and earned an MBA from Auburn University in Montgomery, Alabama.

Tony's military career spanned 28 years including service in the USAF as a B-47 Navigator/Bombadier, progressing to Command and Staff assignments in Armament and Electronics Maintenance at Strategic Air Command Wing and Headquarters level. He also served as Chairman, Department of Air Science at the University of Michigan. He retired from the Air Force in 1971 as Director of Operations, Headquarters Air Force ROTC Maxwell AFB in Alabama.

After his exemplary service in the USAF, Col. Criscuolo began a second career at Valdosta State College as an instructor in the school of Business Administration. He served the college for 12 years, retiring as Professor of Economics and Marketing, Emeritus. Col. Criscuolo continued be active in the community after retirement and was an active proponent of VSU's Learning in Retirement program. Tony was also a member of the Valdosta Kiwanis Club where he raised thousands of dollars for youth projects during the clubs annual poinsettia sales project. Tony's support to the military continued well past his retirement from the Air Force. He was a charter member of the South Georgia Chapter, Military Officer's Association of America (MOAA) and a Life Member of MOAA National.

Tony is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Edna Lix Criscuolo of Valdosta; a son, Thomas John Crisuolo of New York and a nephew, Craig Criscuolo of Missouri. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Crisuolo. His most cherished and successful roles were that of husband and friend. He instilled sensibility, compassion and service. He will be missed.

A memorial service for Antonio Thomas Criscuolo is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. John McGowan officiating.
