Marjorie Doreen Carter Officer, 77, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at her residences following a brave battle with cancer. She was born in Valdosta on October 8, 1939 to the late Elmer S. Sr., and Piney Jewell Flowers Carter. She was a graduate of Valdosta High School and met and married the man of her dreams, Lyn Ray Officer, Sr. She learned quickly how to be a military wife and do things on her own as Lyn was a pilot and was away on various missions throughout his career. She worked for Belk department store for over 20 years as a buyer and managed the ladies department as well as other departments in the store. She was a member of DAR, UDC, and the DAC. She was a past member of both the Literary Guild and the Junior League. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Kristin Officer of Richmond, Virginia; her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Tim Oliver of Valdosta; her grandchildren, Donald and Carol Graczyk of Statesboro, Georgia, Viktor O. Graczyk of Valdosta, Olivia D. Officer and Julia P. Officer both of Richmond, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Lyn Ray Officer, Sr., and her brother, Elmer S. Carter, Jr.
