James "Eston" Barber

James “Eston” Barber, 78, of Hahira, died on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Fellowship Home. He was born on April 28, 1940 in Adel, Georgia to the late James Frank Barber and Minnie L. Graham Padgett. Mr. Barber was a veteran of the United States Army with six years of service. He attended Army and AF postal school and worked as a postal clerk in APO’s in France and Okinawa. After leaving the Army, he worked for 33 years with the United States Postal Service first working as a clerk at the Valdosta post office for several years. Mr. Barber later served as postmaster of Naylor, interim postmaster of Hinesville-Ft. Stewart, Georgia, and then as postmaster in Hahira until his retirement in 1993. After his retirement he developed Oakridge subdivision. He enjoyed his work immensely and it brought him great joy and pleasure. Mr. Barber was very sociable and was said to have never met a stranger. He believed in living life to the fullest and embraced the outdoor lifestyle with his love of hunting and fishing. He had a love of classic cars especially of the 1950’s era. Above all, he loved his Lord, his family, and his country.
Mr. Barber is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carolyn (Hendley) Barber of Hahira; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lisa Carol Warren, and Lori and Patrick Orr all of Hahira; his grandson, Adam Orr of Athens, Georgia; his granddaughter, Elizabeth Moseley of Stella, North Carolina; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Clyde and LaWanda Barber of Green Cove Springs, Florida, and Merle Barber of St. Augustine, Florida; his four-legged friend, Max; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Luke, and a brother, Olen Barber.
Services for James “Eston” Barber will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2018 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Dorman officiating. The burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
