Herman Lee McDonald, 81, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2017. He was born on October 1, 1936 to the late Brewer and Leila Read McDonald. He graduated Hahira High School in 1954, and he attended Valdosta State University. Mr. McDonald served in the U.S. Army. He was employed by The Langdale Company. He and his wife were instrumental in organizing the beginning of the Georgia Sherriff’s Boys Ranch in Hahira, serving as house parents and staff members. He was a member of Shiloh Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Hahira Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Leslie McDonald Goolsby and Brad Goolsby; grandsons, Brait McDonald and Jerica W. McDonald, Bryce and Brooke McCranie, McCauley McCranie and his fiancé, Olivia Cribb, Blake Goolsby and his fiancé Ashlee Marshall, Brandon Goolsby and his fiancé Chae Fender, Austin Goolsby, Colin Goolsby; great grandchildren, Bralyn Cole McDonald, Weston Josyah Lee McDonald, Consara Elaiyna McCranie, McKayla Blaise McCranie, Kayley Celeste McCranie, and Dallas Marshall; a sister-in-law, Barbara Jean McDonald; and two nieces, Ann McDonald Exum and Nancy McDonald Purvis, and his best friend Johnny Langdale. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Reeves McDonald; second wife, Ann Patton McDonald; and two brothers, Edgar Brewer McDonald and James Douglas McDonald.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at Fellowship Church Cemetery.
