Doris King

June 3, 1922 — September 22, 2017

Doris King, 95, of Valdosta, died on Friday, September 22, 2017, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born on June 3, 1922, in White Plains, NY, Doris was the daughter of the late John and Mary Albonetti Aguzi. Growing up in Silver Lake, NY, she first met Ray King in kindergarten and the couple began dating in high school. Doris and Ray were married in 1943, just prior to Ray entering the service during WWII. Ray continued his career as an Air Force officer with Doris by his side. Doris was always active with other Air Force spouses and worked hard to make a home for their family in such places as, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, South Dakota, and Nebraska. Doris was athletic and competitive. A skilled and talented golfer, Doris loved the game and was club champion several times. Upon Ray's retirement in 1973, the Kings settled in Florida. In the early 1980's, they moved to Valdosta and opened a Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Store where she designed the cakes. Doris was a very talented, creative, and artistic person. She was self-taught and knitted numerous sweaters, painted, and cross stitched 24 Christmas stockings for her grandchildren. She was fiercely independent and loved by all. Her family and church came first in her life. She remained very active well into her 90's. As a member of First United Methodist Church she faithfully attended services and in recent years followed the church services on television.
Survivors are her husband of 74 years, Ray King, Valdosta; daughter and son in law, Pat and John Spaeth of Anaheim, CA; son and daughter in law, Ray and Linda King of Valdosta; grandchildren, Jonna Capecci of Wellesley, MA; John (Abbie) Spaeth of Laguna Niguel, CA; Ray, Jr. (Sallyann) King of Decatur; Stephanie (Thompson) Kurrie of Valdosta; Matthew (Brooke) King of Valdosta; Allison (Ross) Heare of Murfreesboro, TN; fourteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
