Obituary for Curtis Elwood Tomlinson

Curtis Elwood Tomlinson, 95, of Lake Park, died on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Fellowship Home. He was born in Cook County on January 8, 1923 to the late Joseph and Augusta Mathis Tomlinson. He served in the United States Navy during WWII as a Navy Seal (Frogman) in underwater demolition serving in Unit #1. He remained in Ft. Pierce Florida as an instructor until he chose to deploy with Unit #47 to do battle for his country and family’s freedom. After the Navy, he worked with Union Camp as the shipping superintendent and retired after 28 years of service. Mr. Tomlinson was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Ronnie Nelson of Baxley, Georgia, Shelby and Wayne Wisenbaker of Valdosta, Vickie and Duane Bryan of Naples, Florida, Phyllis Tustin of Lake Park, and Debbie and Pete Fender of Valdosta; 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Lessie Watley Tomlinson; his granddaughter, Donna Gore, and two infant grandsons; his sisters, Lillian Smith, Mae Smith and Myrtice Landers, Alma Futch; brothers Hobson Tomlinson, William (Willie) Tomlinson, and Theodore (Buddy) Tomlinson.
Services for Curtis Elwood Tomlinson will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Elder Jim Smith and grandson Alan Stalvey officiating. The burial will follow at the Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
